Femtocells
Five bar solutions for network coverage
Femtocells are a complex but useful network asset. The femtocell controller sits high up in the 3G hierarchy. The traditional model of the NodeB base station with its controlling RNC gives way to the access point (AP) placing a NodeB or Home NobeB/RNC (HNB) in any business or household.
The introduction of the HNB poses complex issues for operators to address, among them: emergency call routing, to ensure emergency calls are correctly routed, and IP location locking, to ensure that the HNB is used where it is intended and doesn't cause interference where it should not be operating.
Another key aspect of the femtocell strategy is PKI infrastructure. This underpins a secure, state-of-the-art network security. At Forcon, we know how to maximise network protection and have the resources to ensure it actually works.
The key advantages to running femtocells can be summarised as:
- Data offloading - Essential for heavy usage areas such as stadiums and city centres. The rising number of smartphones are causing congestion on the finite radio spectrum
- Location messaging - Allows local businesses to leverage femtocell APs to advertise their goods and services
- Extended coverage - Fills in the holes in nationwide and even in-building coverage, of particular use in large campuses, sub erranian levels and factory locations
At Forcon, we have been involved in developing femtocell solutions for major carriers in Australia, Holland and Germany. Whether it is metro Ethernet or ATM core, or SIM/X.509 authentication, we cover it! So for the fast lane into femtocell provisioning, contact us today.
