5G NPN
Unlocking outstanding performance for businesses
Non public networks (NPN) are either licensed or unlicensed localised 3GPP serviced campuses that provide feature rich radio access technology to private or public businesses, the major selling point is that the radio environment is tailored to your business requirements, whether that is ultra long battery life or cutting edge latency and reliability.
Multefire has introduced a technology twist that works in a traffic light way of scheduling the radio transceiver, this provides access to excellent radio path performance in a shared spectrum scenario. The recent introduction of 3GPP 5G R16 has uncoupled the Multefire NPN from its previous requirement of an anchor in the licensed spectrum.
The key advantages to running NPN can be summarised as:
- Bespoke radio requirements - 5G has introduced functionality that is categorised in three categories, mMTC, uRLLC and eMBB. These provide specific functions relevant to the business model of the service area. If it's ultra reliability you need then uRLLC would be the primary service mode for your campus. If it is IoT it will be mMTC and for superfast broadband it will be eMBB
- No requirement for spectrum with Multefire - A cheap alternative to getting your tailored NPN performance capabilities to drive your business, supports the same capabilities as a licensed NPN however the scheduling requirements of Multfire should be considered in the context of you Use Case requirements
- Dedicated radio spectrum - This is where you have reserved spectrum and the appropriate license, the radio spectrum is solely for your business application, this affords outstanding performance SLA capabilities to maximise productivity and performance
At Forcon, we have recently been leading on behalf of Impleo the design and deployment of a 5G NPN dual site solution for a major contruction company in the UK as a Proof of Concept funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. This has involved Use Cases for remote Robodogs and contruction asset control. We are so excited about it we have developed a whole new section and you can check it out here.
